ITIL 4 (MP) Training FAQs
The ITIL® Managing Professionals Certification is designed to teach professionals how to apply the ITIL® framework in real-world situations. It ensures a seamless and efficient deployment with increased performance efficiency. This certification allows employees to follow well-defined criteria for integrating ITIL® into current business models in order to achieve corporate objectives.
ITIL® Managing Professionals Certification is valid for a lifetime and does not need to be renewed. Though it has been confirmed that ITIL Managing Professionals in English will be discontinued on January 1, 2022.
Individuals must have either an ITIL v3 Foundation* or an ITIL 4 Foundation credential to take the ITIL Managing Professionals exam.
The ITIL Managing Professionals certification is not required to obtain the ITIL Intermediate Level qualifications.
The ITIL Managing Professionals certification is worth three credits toward the ITIL Expert certification.
As part of our My ITIL programme, ITIL Managing Professionals is awarded 15 points toward your ITIL digital badge.
The exam is open book and consists of multiple choice questions that are based on a scenario.
* Until ITIL v3 is phased out, ITIL v2 Foundation + v3 Bridge will be accepted.
The ITIL Managing Professionals is now designed to be a single qualification rather than a series.
The exam is based on several components of the ITIL core material, such as the Planning to Implement Service Management book, as well as extra guidance that is currently being written to address more in-depth practical application techniques.
The qualification covers the following topics at a high level:
CSI Approach: Using the CSI Approach as an organizing framework to guide a person or team through the implementation of ITIL/ITSM recommendations in practice. Includes a list of specific procedures and approaches to employ at different stages of the Approach.
Guiding Principles: A set of general principles that should be utilized to guide decisions and activities when implementing ITIL/ITSM, often when a person or team progresses through the CSI Approach steps.
Critical Competencies: There are three areas where a practitioner and/or organization must have and apply competencies in order to be effective in implementing the ITIL/ITSM guidance:
- Communication
- Metrics, and Measurement
- Organizational Change Management
The exam will be a scenario-based multiple-choice exam with a case study that will assess the candidate’s ability to apply the knowledge and skills learned to the best of their ability. Both ITIL/ITSM Subject Matter Experts and AXELOS’ highly experienced team of test experts are used in the exam development process.
Bloom’s taxonomy levels 2–4 will be the focus of the exam. The exam’s overall level is level 3.
IF SO, HOW MANY POINTS WILL THE ITIL MANAGING PROFESSIONALS ADD TO THE ITIL EXPERT?
In the ITIL certification framework, the ITIL Managing Professionals certification will be worth three credits. These credits may be applied toward ITIL Expert certification in the same manner as Foundation, Intermediate, and Managing Across the Lifecycle (MALC) credits are applied today.
ITIL Foundation will be required before taking ITIL Managing Professionals, as it will complement rather than replace the Foundation qualification. To that aim, candidates for the ITIL Managing Professionals course must have passed the ITIL Foundation test and be conversant with the principles of ITSM as well as the ITIL organization-wide common language. With ITIL Managing Professionals, which is the next level after Foundation and not a replacement, these lessons will be put into context to explain the “how” of successful improvement efforts.
ITIL Managing Professionals is another degree within the scheme that provides credits for those on a path to ITIL Expert by being additive to the existing qualification scheme.
ITIL Managing Professionals assistance focuses on putting what you’ve learned into practise. There is no analogous qualification to fast track from in the current ITIL qualification framework.
