Pre-requisites for the course and eligibility for exam:

  1. A four-years bachelor’s degree or a global equivalent,
  2. Minimum 3 years (36 months, i.e., 4,500 hours) of hands-on experience in all five process groups of project management, directing and leading project tasks, and
  3. 35 hours of mandatory training in project management OR a CAPM Certification.

OR

  1. A secondary degree, i.e., a high school diploma or an associate’s degree or a global equivalent,
  2. Minimum 5 years (60 months, i.e., 7,500 hours) of hands-on experience in all five process groups of project management, directing and leading project tasks, and
  3. 35 hours of mandatory training in project management OR a CAPM Certification.

Certification
The certification exam is conducted by Project Management Institute – USA (PMI). The certifications are also given by the PMI.

Exam format

  • The exam is conducted online at a PMI-approved testing center. 
  • The exam duration is of 4 hours (240 minutes) with no additional reading time. 
  • There shall be 200 multiple choice questions out of which 25 questions are pretest questions.
  • The 25 pretest questions are not used to score you in the exam.
  • The testing is computer-based. Hence, the result is declared immediately after completion of the exam.
  • Certificates are usually received within 4 to 6 weeks after passing the exam. The candidate may download a soft copy of the certificate from the PMI website within 24 hours of passing the exam.

Q. Where is the PMP Certification exam conducted?
The exams are conducted at the PMI approved Pearson VUE Testing Centers worldwide. In India, these testing centers are at Mumbai, Pune, Surat, Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Hyderabad.

Q. For how long is the certification valid?
The certification is valid for 3 years.

Q. How do I renew / maintain my PMP certification?
In order to maintain the PMP Certification, you have to earn 60 PDU’s (Professional Development Units)by the end of the validity period of 3 years.

Q. What is a PDU and how to earn them?
A. A Project Development Unit (PDU) is a unit of measuring one’s professional development. One hour of ongoing training and development activity undertaken by a candidate earns him/her one PDU. PDU’s can be earned by continuous self-education like attending seminars, webinars, industry relevant events, online courses, or by creating content for use of other students / professionals or by simply undertaking more varied projects to expand your experience. Q. Can I prepare for and sit the exam by self-study without attending the course hours?
A. No. Although self-study is definitely required in addition to the official training,a candidate shall not be eligible to sit the exam without attending the compulsory 35 hours of training.

Q. What is a CAPM Certification?
A. The Certified Associate Project Management (CAPM) course is another project management certification provided by PMI involving a study of basic level Project Management for entry level professionals or beginners.

Q. Is the course fee inclusive of exam fee and cost of study material?
A. No, the course fee is not inclusive of the exam fee. However, the study material and a training kit shall be provided by us.

Q. What is the exam fee?
A. The exam fee charged by PMI is $ 405 for members of PMI and $555 for non-members.

Q. How do I apply for the exam?
A. You may apply for the exam on the website of PMI by filling out and submitting a PMP application form. PMI then reviews your application which takes 4 to 5 working days. You have to keep checking the status of your application on the PMI website. Upon approval, you will have to make payment of the exam fee. You remain eligible to sit the exam for a period of one year from the date of approval of your application. Upon making payment, PMI will send you an email setting out instructions to schedule an appointment to sit the exam.

Q. What documents will I need to submit with my application?
A. You do not need to submit any documentation along with the application. However, it may happen that your application gets picked up for a random audit by PMI. You will receive an email to that effect from PMI giving you further instructions to submit documentation which may include educational certificates, attestations of Experience Verification Forms and certificate from your PMP training institute. It is to be noted that the eligibility period of one year does not begin until your application successfully passes the audit and gets approved.

Q. How many number ofattempts are allowedto pass the certification exam?
A. You have a maximum of 3 attempts to pass the certification exam within the eligibility period of one year.

Q. What will happen if my eligibility period expires?
A. If your eligibility period lapses, you shall have to re-apply to PMI.
